A ban has been placed from last 8 years to prevent poultry exports from Pakistan to Middle East especially in United Arab Emirates. But the Ministry of Commerce in Islamabad came up with an important Announcement this Tuesday. The announcement was that United Arab Emirates (UAE) has formally permitted the companies to export poultry products from Pakistan.
The ban was placed on poultry & its products in around 2006. The reason behind the ban was avian influenza (bird flu), a virus which broke out among birds in Pakistan. Since 2008, Pakistan has been announced as a diseased free in this regard by World Health Organization (WHO).
During the occasion when this announcement was made, the Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir acknowledged the lifting of ban as an appreciable step by a lifelong trading ally & brotherly nation. Mr. Khurram Dastgir also appreciated the support backed by Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz and Minister of National Food Security & Reseach, Mr. Sikandar hayat Khan on this occasion.
Mr.Khurram Dastgir highly admired the efforts of Pakistan’s Ambassador to United Arab Emirates, Mr. Moazzam Ahmad Khan. He also played an important role behind the uplifting of this ban & strengthening of relationship between two nations. Pakistan Department for Plant Protection also recognized Pakistan Poultry Association for their assistance during visit of UAE poultry inspectors in the country.
Speaking on the occasion the Commerce Minister, Khurram Dastgir, said that Pakistan appreciates the lifting of ban by a longstanding trading partner and brotherly nation. He also appreciated the cooperation extended by the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, and Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan for this purpose.
It is worth mentioning that UAE annually imports more than $700 million of poultry products. With the uplifting of ban, Pakistani exporters could avail many opportunities.
